Cai is the recommended starting hero for new players — his Lord class starts at level 1 with solid HP and balanced growths, and his Holy Flame Art (Ignis) teaches you the core Blaze Arts loop without punishing positioning mistakes. Pair him with a Soldier or Mercenary for chapter 1–2, then promote at the Intermediate seal for an easy chapter 5–7 carry. If you prefer magic, Mage is the safest magic-type Beginner class.

At launch, Theodora ranks S-tier on the Heroic Games tier list thanks to her Paladin promotion with Lance Crest and double-tap combat arts; Dietrich joins her in S for players who master Hand-to-Hand doubling; Cai holds A-tier in the early game and climbs to S after Swordmaster promotion with the Sword Crest of House Cai. Eshmel — unlocked at chapter 15 after the five-year time skip — is the meta capper at S-tier once his Wyvern Lord promotion unlocks.

The classic Fire Emblem triangle applies: Sword beats Axe, Axe beats Lance, Lance beats Sword, granting +1 hit and +1 damage per engagement. Bow is neutral against the triangle but strikes at 2-range, Hand-to-Hand (gauntlets) hit twice per round on initiation, and Magic deals neutral damage to all physical weapon types. Pairing heroes into adjacent weapon specialists with support bonuses multiplies the triangle advantage.

Blaze Arts are HP-costing signature moves — each protagonist learns a unique Holy Flame Art (Ignis for Cai, Sol for Dietrich, Luna for Theodora, Astra for Leda, Aether for Eshmel). Activating Blaze Arts burns 20% of max HP and starts filling the Blaze Gauge; when the gauge is full you enter Burst state for +50% damage and stacked Holy Flame Art procs. The catch: Burst halves your max HP until the next chapter, so time your Blaze Arts windows carefully.

Fate Reversal lets you rewind a single chapter turn from the White Bird shrine in Dagsion, restoring both your units and the enemy to their previous positions. It costs one Faith Token, which you earn in Temple dungeons. Use it when an ally dies in chapter 9–14 and you do not want to restart the entire map — do not waste tokens on early-game losses where rewinding the whole chapter is faster.

The five-year time skip occurs after chapter 14, immediately after the Heroic Games quarter-final. Chapter 15+ jumps forward five years and unlocks Eshmel as the fifth playable protagonist, alongside the three surviving members of your original four. The Royal Court in Dagsion splits the White Bird route and the Royal Court route, leading to two distinct late-game branches that converge at chapter 22.
